Even as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has suspended two IAS officers on charges of corruption, his own Principal Secretary has allegedly been accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 25 lakh from a person to clear his file.
UP Governor Ram Naik has shot off a letter to the Chief Minister to bring to his notice a complaint filed by Abhishek Gupta, a resident of Indiranagar, Lucknow against Chief Minister's Principal Secretary SP Goyal for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 25 lakh. Gupta had sought permission from the state government to buy a Gram Sabha land for opening a petrol pump in Hardoi district.
"The complainant has alleged that the Principal Secretary (to the CM) SP Goyal has demanded Rs 25 lakh for clearing his file. No action was being taken on his file since he has not paid the bribe. I am attaching Abhishek Gupta's letter for your action," the Governor said in his letter to Yogi Adityanath.
Gupta was sanctioned a petrol pump in Hardoi by Essar Oil Company. He had bought a piece of private land as well, but the land was insufficient to set-up the pump. He had applied for government permission to buy adjoining unused Gram Sabha land. His file was pending at the CM's Office with Goyal for approval.
Gupta claimed that he was asked to pay Rs 25 lakh for clearing the file when he was making rounds to the CM's Office seeking permission to buy the land. He claimed that the bribe was to go to the CM's Principal Secretary.
Failed to arrange the huge amount, Gupta wrote a mail and lodged a complaint with Governor Ram Naik.
The Principal Secretary Information Avaneesh Awasthi, however, denied bribery charges against the CM's Principal Secretary as 'baseless'. Goyal was not available for comments.
Last month, the CM had removed two Personal Secretaries from the CM's Secretariat on charges of leaking information. One of them was the PS to his Principal Secretary SP Goyal.
