HTC has launched two mid-range smartphones in India today under its Desire series — the Desire 12 and Desire 12+. Both the phone were globally launched in March this year. After two months of wait, the new Desire series hits the Indian shores. As far as the specs are concerned, the global and Indian variants of both the Desire 12 and Desire 12+ are same, apart from some differences in RAM and storage memory. Design wise, both the Desire 12 and Desire 12+ boast of exquisite “Liquid Surface” just as the flagship HTC U11 and also the U11+. Both the Desire series phones will go on pre-orders starting tomorrow, June 7. Customers can head to the HTC India e-store for booking the phones. The Desire 12 and Desire 12+ will go on sale in India for the first time on June 11.
The new HTC smartphones don’t have a lot in common, apart from some design similarities. Both the Desire series smartphones boast of a durable acrylic glass back panel with curved edges and dynamic colours. The Desire series smartphones are among the cheapest HTC phones to come with near bezel-less display and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Plus variant comes with a dual rear camera setup, while the Desire 12 sports a single sensor on the back. On the front, the Plus variant comes with an 8-megapixel sensor, while the Desire 12 sports a 5-megapixel camera.
HTC Desire 12, Desire 12+ specs:
Display: The Desire 12 comes with a 5.5inch HD+ (720×1440) IPS LCD display, while the Plus variant comes with a bigger screen size. The Desire 12+ comes with a 6-inch HD+ (720×1440) IPS LCD. Both the HTC smartphones come with 18:9 edge-to-edge screens.
Processor: The Desire 12+ is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, octa-core, 64-bit processor, while the Desire 12 comes with a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 chipset.
Software: The Desire 12 runs Android OS with HTC Sense on top while the Plus variant comes with Android 8.0 Oreo with HTC Sense out-of-the-box.
Rear Camera: The HTC Desire 12+ comes with a dual camera system on the back, while the Desire 12 sports a single camera setup. In terms of specs, the HTC Desire 12+ includes a primary sensor of 13-megapixel and a secondary sensor of 2-megapixel. The HTC Desire 11 comes with a 13-megapixel camera. Both the phones come with LED Flash support.
Front Camera: The Plus variant comes with an 8-megapixel BSI camera sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. HTC claims that the phone is capable of capturing accurate detail even in low-light conditions. The Desire 12+, on the other hand, comes with a 5-megapixel BSI camera sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.
Battery: The Desire 12+ is backed by a 2965mAh battery, while the Desire 12 comes with a smaller 2730mAh battery. Both the HTC phones come with Power saver mode and 5V/1A charger.
Software: The Desire 12+ runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo-based HTC Sense UI out-of-the-box. The Desire 12, on the other hand, comes with Android-based HTC Sense UI.
RAM: Both the HTC Desire phones come with 3GB RAM
Storage: Both the Desire 12 and Desire 12+ comes with 32GB of internal storage, which can be expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card.

The main camera of both the smartphones comes paired with several camera features like — Phase Detection Autofocus, BSI sensor, LED flash, Self-timer up to 10 seconds, Face detection, HDR mode, Panorama, Full HD (1080p) video recording and Video Pic.
–The dual cameras of the HTC Desire 12+ lets you focus on photos after they are shot. It also comes with Bokeh mode, meaning you’ll be able to click background blurred pictures. The HTC Desire 12+ also lets you add Bokeh effect to pictures after they are shot.
— Both the smartphones come with front-facing LED flash or soft-tone selfie light which lets you click well-lit selfie in low light conditions. The f/2.0 aperture in the front camera of HTC Desire 12+ lets in more light to capture accurate details in low light situations.
HTC Desire 12, Desire 12+ India price and availability:
The HTC Desire 12 is launched at a price tag of Rs 15,800, while the Plus model is priced at Rs 19,790. Like the global variant, the Indian models of the phones will also be available only in two colours — Cool Black and Warm Silver. Both the colour variants of the smartphones will be up for pre-orders in India starting tomorrow, June 7.
